Building a temporary walkway in of Auckland’s busiest streets

Building a walkway in one of Auckland’s busiest streets was not something that Outdure has done before, don’t get us wrong we have done everything from your standard 5×5 sqm residential deck through to a 1500 sqm bowling green for Ryman aged care. This was definitely something different to the norm but it was such a great initiative to apart of.
Designed in conjunction with Muir Design and the Auckland Council we created a 114 sqm temporary walkway constructed out of our QwikBuild Aluminium Deck framing system which was prefabricated off-site which helped with the tricky installation times as the busy street could only be closed off in the evening (00:00 – 6:00 a.m). The frames were delivered on-site ready to be constructed in a matter of hours and was a massive selling point for the council when they first approached us. The brief was quite simple… they needed a lightweight, non-slip, durable, fast installation product that they can use for projects in the future, keeping in mind that the project is a trial to see if they can increase the foot traffic and in turn, make the area more enjoyable for local residence and out of towners.
After 2 nights of installation (See timelapse video) the walkway was fully constructed with our QwickBuild Aluminium deck framing system and finished off with our durable CasaDeck composite decking board and 3M anti-slip strip to increase the slip rating at either end of the decks. “We are looking forward to seeing how it works and will be speaking regularly with businesses to get their feedback on the trial.”
